TNF: 25th Ranked Tight End Defense Meets George Kittle

While we’re talking defense vs position, George Kittle faces one of the worst defenses to tight ends this year tonight. This is where the LA Rams rank across the board vs the position:

• 60.08 receiving yards per game, 25th in the NFL

• 5.83 receptions, 26th in the NFL

• 7.83 reception attempts, 27th in the NFL

• 32.75 yards after the catch, 30th in the NFL

• 23.67 average long reception, 29th in the NFL

• 11.56 yards per reception, 26th in the NFL

• 0.33 receiving TDs, 21st in the NFL

Can Kittle Keep It Going?

Across the board, the Rams give up quite a bit to tight ends, and unfortunately for LA, George Kittle is scorching hot right now.

He’s averaging 85 yards per game over his last 5 starts, and an even better 96 yards per game in his last 5 home games.

The one drawback for Kittle? His history against the Rams. He’s failed to reach 55 yards in any of his last 6 games vs the Rams dating back to 2021 and hasn’t reached 40 yards since 2021. There are more positives for Kittle than negatives, though. For example: Kittle on primetime at home.

Over his last 5 primetime games at home, Kittle is averaging 88.4 yards per game, 4.8 receptions, 6.6 targets, and 5 touchdowns over that stretch. Is Kittle worth a look tonight?

Cooper Kupp Dominates San Francisco

The knock on Kittle was his play vs LA. Well, on the other side of the field is the opposite end of that spectrum. Cooper Kupp has consistently dominated the San Francisco 49ers, averaging 116.6 yards per game in his last 5 head-to-head with SF.

And Kupp has been a road warrior this season.

All three of his 100-yard games have come on the road in 2024, and for whatever reason Stafford looks for Kupp on the road an average of 3 more times per game. His targets at home average 8.5, and on the road that jumps to 11.4. It’s translated to 7.6 receptions per game on the road compared to 6.3 receptions at home.

The one knock on Kupp is that the 49ers don’t give up a ton to wide receivers, ranking top 10 in receiving yards, receiving TDs, receptions, yards per reception, and yards after the catch.

Celtics vs Pistons

In his last 9 games against the Piston, Jaylen Brown has outstanding numbers. He’s averaged 26.6 points, and gone over his points line (23.5) in 7 of his last 9 games.

The Piston rank 12th in points per game to small forwards, allowing 20.79.

Raptors/Heat

This is the third matchup for RJ Barrett and the Raptors against Miami this season, and in the first two, Barrett has shown up.

He’s scored 25 and 37 points against them this season.

Kings/Pels

Domantas Sabonis is averaging 12.7 rebounds this season, but his home and away splits jump off the page. He averages 11.5 rebounds per game at home and a whopping 13.9 on the road.

And good for Domas, the Pels give up 16.68 rebounds per game to centers (28th in the NBA).
