Let’s get into the newsletter, where a few NHL players have caught our eye.
Lots of Shots in the NHL
In our research on the new app this morning, a few NHL players immediately stood out for how aggressively they’ve started the season shooting the puck. These guys aren’t just creating chances — they’re driving play every night and racking up shots at an impressive rate. Today, we’re putting the spotlight on three of them: Auston Matthews, Jason Robertson, and Jackson Blake.
Auston Matthews, 3.5 Shots on Goal
Matthews was quiet in the first game, finishing with 1 shot on goal on only 4 attempts. But in the following two games, both losses to Detroit, Matthews had a whopping 13 shots on goal in 18 attempts.

Matthews has 12 & 14 shot attempts in his last 2 games, and even with just 9 attempts, averaged 5.6 shots on goal last season with an 88% hit rate against this shots on goal line. He’s facing the Predators, which should be a good matchup for Matthews - they rank 24th in shots on goal allowed this season.
Jason Robertson, 3.5 Shots on Goal
Robertson has come out firing, with goals in back-to-back games to kick off the season, thanks to his 13 shots on goal and 18 shot attempts.

He has 9 attempts in both games this year, and with just 7 or more attempts, he averaged 4.3 shots on goal with a 95% hit rate. He has a solid matchup against the Wild, who rank 22nd in shots on goal allowed this season.
Jackson Blake, 2.5 Shots on Goal
Blake has done just what Matthews and Robertson have done, racking up 5 and 6 shots on goal through the first two games, thanks to his 15 shot attempts across those two games.

He has 6 attempts in both games, and last year, with even just 5 or more shot attempts, he averaged 3.4 shots on goal. His matchup is even better, facing San Jose, who allow the most shots on goal in the league, and did so last year, too.
