Most NHL and NBA teams have less than 6 games left on their schedules now, and the races for playoff sports, individual awards, and long-standing records are in full gear. That’s what we will highlight today: how the biggest remaining stories in those leagues may play out with the best data backing us up. There will also be some value strikeout props at the end, too.
Now, let’s get into it!
NBA
NBA Play Off Outlook
The Warriors secured their spot in the play-in, and with that, the 10 teams headed for at least game 83 are set. But there could still be some movement in terms of who plays who. The Warriors need to win out if they want any hope of having home court in the first play-in game against, likely, the Lakers. And that’s who they play tonight.
Steph Curry Over 26.5 Points
As stated, this is a huge game for Golden State and Steph has rarely failed to show up for those. But even more so, he’s always shown up against the Lakers.
He’s been over this line in 9 of his last 11 games against the Lakers and in all three matchups so far this year. And his numbers with three days rest this season are encouraging, too.
NBA Playoff Teams vs Bottom Dwellers
The Philadelphia 76ers play the Detroit Pistons and the Indiana Pacers play the Toronto Raptors. They’re in the middle of a heated race for the 6th playoff spot, and a chance of avoiding the play-in. And tonight they’re playing the 15th and 12th placed teams in the East. Can they take advantage?
Myles Turner Over 23.5 Pts+Reb
Historically Myles Turner has done well against Toronto, going over this line in 4 of his last 5 games against them. And tonight’s matchup looks even better for Turner, considering the Raptors are still without Jakob Poeltl, so Kelly Olynyk will have to defend Myles Turner down low.
Joel Embiid Over 28.5 Points
Yes, Joel Embiid is still on a minute restriction in his return from a major knee injury. But he’s been over this line in two of the three games since coming back, and in 81% of his games this season.
And head-to-head, Embiid has cooked the Pistons.
NHL
Chase for the Hart Trophy
Connor McDavid has the night off, but fellow Hart candidates Nikita Kucherov and Nathan MacKinnon can strengthen their case for the trophy tonight.
Nikita Kucherov Over 0.5 Assists
Connor McDavid getting 100 assists is a lock, but Nikita Kucherov has a bit more of an uphill battle ahead of him. He needs 7 more apples in his final 5 games, which feels more than likely with the pace he’s been going at. He’s had at least one assist in 8 of his last 10 games and 6 of those games have been multi-assist games.
And against Columbus, it’s historically either a multi-assist game or nothing for Kucherov.
Nathan MacKinnon Over 1.5 Points
MacKinnon is three points back of Kucherov for the league lead in points, and two goals away from 50. MacKinnon has 6 multi-point games in his last 9 meetings against Minnesota, and 10 points in his last 5 games overall.
MLB
K’s, K’s, and More K’s
Strikeout props have always been a favorite of MLB bettors, and we didn’t want to highlight any last week because there just hadn’t been enough games yet. But now there has been, and now we have some data to back up a few trends for today’s slate.
Sonny Gray Over 3.5 K’s
First, look at this chart.
And then, look at this data.
The Phillies are a top 10 team in strikeouts this season versus righties, and Gray has had at least 4 strikeouts in 10 straight games.
Carlos Rodon Under 6.5 K’s
Whatever plagued Carlos Rodon in the second half of last year appears to still be plaguing him this season as well. Yes, he gets a great matchup against the Marlins but 6.5 strikeouts is likely way too high for Rodon.
He’s been under this line in 12 of his 15 starts dating back to last season and in both starts this season.
