Do or Die for Two NBA & NHL Teams

In partnership with

Stayin’ Alive, Stayin’ Alive

That’s a song the Minnesota Timberwolves and Carolina Hurricanes hope to be singing by the end of the night, with both teams looking to force pivotal game 7s. The Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks shift back to Vancouver for game 5, with the series tied at 2. The WNBA enters its third night of competition and we have 7 games in Major League Baseball.

In total, we have 10 trends for you, but first…

Minnesota Timberwolves (2) at Denver Nuggets (3)

If Mike Conley doesn’t play, it’s hard to imagine the Timberwolves winning in Denver. Without him on the floor in game 5, they looked out of sync and nothing like the team that was up 2-0 in this series. But it’s looking like Conley might suit up, so the Timberwolves have life.

Anthony Edwards Over 29.5 Points

If Conley plays, this looks like a solid trend.

If he doesn't play, it admittedly gets a little sketchy. But even without Conley, the narrative here helps us along. Anthony Edwards in an elimination game coming off a bad outing? Sign us up.

Aaron Gordon Over 24.5 Points+Rebounds+Assists

Gordon has been incredible in this series, so we’re riding the hot hand here. He’s been over this line in two straight games and three of the last four.

New York Rangers (3) at Carolina Hurricanes (2)

The Carolina Hurricanes are looking to be the 5th team in Stanley Cup Playoff history to come back from a 3-0 series deficit and win, but first, they need to force a game 7 to get back in New York.

Sebastian Aho Over 0.5 Points

If the Canes hope to win, their best player must show up.

Aho has been a menace in this series, with 7 points in the first 5 games. He failed to register a point in their game 5 win with the depth stepping up in a big win, so we’ll turn our attention back to the Canes’ best tonight.

Vincent Trochek Over 0.5 Points

Trochek registered 12 points in the Rangers’ first 7 playoff games, but he’s gone back-to-back without making his mark on the score sheet. We’re highlighting this for two reasons; his performance, and the bounce-back narrative.

Edmonton Oilers (2) at Vancouver Canucks (2)

Teams who win game 5, when the series is tied at 2, have won the series 79% of the time. Your move, Oilers and Canucks.

Zach Hyman Over 0.5 Goals

Two things about Mr. Hyman:

  • Zach Hyman has NOT gone three games this season without a goal. Yes, you read that right.

  • And Hyman has not scored in two straight games. 1 + 1 = 2

Quinn Hughes Over 0.5 Assists

Captain Canuck has 4 assists over his last three games, and 4 assists in 5 home playoff games so far. Ridin’ the hot hand.

Cincinnati Reds vs Los Angeles Dodgers

A matchup from hell for the Reds, and a matchup made in heaven for Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow.

Tyler Glasnow Over 8.5 Strikeouts

Glasnow has 10 or more strikeouts in three of his last 4 starts, and in that other start, he had 9. He’s been dealing.

And the Cincinnati Reds are a brutal strikeout team against righties. Brutal.

New York Mets vs Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies are the best team in baseball, and the Mets are well, the Mets.

JT Realmuto Over 1.5 Total Bases

Phillies catcher JT Realmuto has been mashing lefties this season, hitting .349 with 17 bases in his last 7 games. And Mets starter Jose Quintana has allowed righties to hit him to the tune of a .291 average so far in 2024.

New York Liberty vs Indiana Fever

Oh, baby!

Sabrina Ionescu vs Caitlin Clark. The first time they go face-to-face in the WNBA, so we’re highlighting the three-point duel for their first matchup.

Sabrina Ionescu Over 3.5 3PTM & Caitlin Clark Over 3.5 3PTM

Ionescu has been under this line in 8 of her last 10 road games dating back to last season, but when she attempts 10 or more threes on the road she’s been over this line 89% of the time in her last 20 games. And the Ionescu vs Clark narrative is going to drive some momentum for both teams, we’re banking on her shooting a ton.

And Clark had 4 threes in her first game, on 11 attempts. The volume will be there for Clark, hopefully, the shots follow.

Sabrina Ionescu Over 3.5 3PTM

Caitlin Clark Over 3.5 3PTM

Tuesday Recap

MLB Trend of the Day

Bryston Stott Over 1.5 Total Bases ❌ Stott walked three times, which chalked this trend for us. He did manage a base hit late in the game, but it’s still a miss.

TJ McConnell Over 18.5 Points+Rebounds+Assists ❌ McConnel never got going, finished with 7 points, 5 assists, and no boards

Donte DiVincenzo Over 3.5 3PTM ❌ DiVincenzo was awful. 0-6 from three.

Karl Anthony Towns Over 19.5 Points ✅ KAT had the bounceback we called for, and finished with 23 points.

Michael Porter Jr. Over 15.5 Points ❌ Porter Jr. was the only starter on the Nuggets to not go over this line, of course.

Matthew Tkachuk Over 3.5 Shots on Goal ❌ Close, but no cigar. Tkachuk finished with 3 shots on goal.

Aleksander Barkov Over 0.5 Points ❌ The Panthers’ only goal was from Sam Reinhart and it was unassisted. Boo.

Brock Boeser Over 0.5 Points ✅ Brock Boeser had an assist on the late goal to tie the game, even though the Oilers still scored later to win it in regulation.

Zach Hyman Over 3.5 Shots on Goal ❌ Hyman had 3 shots. Boo.

Jonquel Jones Over 12.5 Points ✅ Jones had a monster season opener, she dropped 25 for an easy over

Aliyah Boston Under 9.5 Rebounds ✅ Boston went up against the best rebounder in the league in the season opener, and that’s why we faded her.

Diana Taurasi Under 14.5 Points ❌ We faded one of the goats, and we learned our lesson. Taurasi dropped 23 in the season opener.

Kayla McBride Over 14.5 Points ❌ McBride only had 12.

Overall Recap

4 for 13 this week, not the best. Since we started tracking the newsletter on April 16th, our suggested trends are 41/76 (54%).
