Divisional Races in the MLB
One trend for each major MLB game tonight

Leagues, Divisions, Wild Cards
All three American League divisions - the East, Central, and West - are still being fought for. In the National League, the Dodgers’ pursuit of another division title is all that’s left to be settled in terms of divisions (The Brewers and Phillies are still fighting for the NL crown).
The Mets and Reds are tied at 80-76. Cincinnati has the tiebreaker, so the Mets need some help to get in, and they need to not Met this up. The AL Wild Card is still a massive party - the Jays are the only team that’s clinched, and 6 teams are vying for 5 spots.
All in all, there are plenty of games tonight with playoff implications, but we’re going to focus on three behemoths:
Tigers at Guardians
Red Sox at Blue Jays
Mets at Cubs
On top of that analysis, you can find our Batte vs Pitcher sheet below.
Let’s get into it!
DET at CLE: Tarik Skubal, Strikeouts
You have to like Skubal in this spot, his head to head nunbers are off the charts. This will be his fourth start against the Guardians this season, and he has never failed to throw nine strikeouts against Cleveland this year.

Skubal, H2H
Cleveland has the 9th highest strikeout rate against left handed pitchers in their last 15 games, and there are 6 players in this Guardians lineup with a K rate above 27% against Skubal in their careers.

The Guardians lineup vs Skubal
Huge implications in this game for both teams: the Tigers have slipped recently, they’re 1-9 in their last 10 games. Cleveland is now just 1 game back of them for the division, so this game is huge!

BOS at TOR: Kevin Gausman, Earned Runs
Gausman is pitching his best when the Jays need it most, giving up only 3 total earned runs in his last 4 starts, and 4 or fewer hits in 3 of his last 4 starts.

Kevin Gausman’s earned runs, L5 games
Six players in the project Red Sox lineup have a strikeout rate of 27% or higher versus Gausman, and only two have an average above .300.

The Red Sox lineup vs Gausman
This is a massive game for Toronto and Boston: the Jays are two games up on the Yankees for the AL East lead, and their magic number is now 4 to win the division. The Red Sox are a game up on the Guardians and Astros for the second wild card spot.
NYM at CHI: Francisco Lindor, HRR
The Mets are Met-ing. They lost two in a row to the lowly Nationals, and now they sit outside of a playoff spot because they don’t have the tiebreaker on Cincinnati. They need their best player to be their best player, and if honeslty, he’s been pretty good. Lindor has 15 HRR in his last 4 games, and 3 or more HRR in 3 of his last 4 games.

Lindor’s last 5 games
His numbers against Cubs starter Cade Horton are extremely limited, with a single in two plate appearances versus the righty, but his numbers against the Cubs as a whole this season, are pretty good.

Lindor, H2H vs Chicago
But he is seeing righties better than lefties, with a .277 average compared to .236.
