Happy Thanksgiving! NFL is đź‘‘

Thought for the three NFL Games today, with the NBA returning tomorrow

In partnership with

NFL, the 👑’s of Thanksgiving!

There’s something different about the NFL games on Thanksgiving, and today’s slate should be no different.

  • Bears at Lions, 12:30 PM

  • Giants at Cowboys, 4:30 PM

  • Dolphins at Packers, 8:20

Sit back, get ready for that first plate, and let’s get into one thought for each Thanksgiving day game.

Since the calendar flipped to October, 5 of the 7 starting running backs to suit up against the Bears have rushed for at least 70 yards. Three of those running backs - Chuba Hubbard, James Conner, and Aaron Jones - ran for 95 yards or more. In just about every metric, the Bears are giving up a ton to running backs.

The Bears rank bottom ten in attempts, yards, TDs, longest rush, and rush TD vs running backs

Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery are the most dynamic running back duo in the NFL, and their numbers speak for themselves.

  • Montgomery rushing: he is averaging 57.5 rush yards per game, and 54.8 at home. His rushing yards line is 54.5 yards, a line he’s gone under in 6 of 11 games and 3 of 5 home games.

  • Montgomery receiving: his receiving yards line is 11.5, a line he’s been over in 8 of 11 games (73%) and 3 of 5 home games (60%). He’s averaging 21.9 receiving yards per game and 20.5 receiving yards at home.

  • Montgomery touchdowns: Monty has 11 touchdowns this season, and touchdowns in 9 of 11 games. More importantly, he has a touchdown in every home game.

  • Gibbs rushing: he’s averaging 80.5 yards per game, and his rushing yards line is 75.5. He’s been over that line in 6 of 11 games (55%) and 3 of 5 home games (60%).

  • Gibbs receiving: he’s averaging 24.1 receiving yards this season, and his receiving yards line is 19.5. He’s been over that line in 7 of 11 games, and 3 of 5 home games.

  • Gibbs touchdowns: has touchdowns in 8 of 11 games and 11 touchdowns overall. He has 4 touchdowns in his last 3 home games and a touchdown in all but one home game this season.

This Giants/Cowboys matchup is the first game since October 25th, 2015 to not feature Daniel Jones or Dak Prescott! It’ll be Drew Lock and Cooper Rush under center for Thanksgiving, and the one thing that jumped out to us is just how bad both of these team rush defenses are.

Cowboys, Giants, Can’t Stop the Run

First, the Giants:

And now, the Cowboys:

In terms of rushing yards allowed, we’re looking at the 29th and 31st-ranked teams today. Can Rico Dowdle and Tyrone Tracy Jr. take advantage?

  • Rico is averaging 48.8 yards per game this season, but that’s ticked up to 53.4 yards in his last 5 games. Its growth, its marginal growth, but growth nonetheless. He only has three touchdowns this season, and none of them are at home.

  • Tyrone Tracy Jr. is the nicer option here; he’s averaging 53.4 rushing yards per game but barely saw any touches in the first four weeks. If we look at his last 5 games, he’s been pretty good for the Giants.

Tracy’s last 5 games

Tracy has averaged 75.8 yards per game over his last 5, and 89 yards per game over his last 4. Tracy has also found the endzone in 2 of his last 4 games after just one touchdown in his first 7 games.

Dolphins at Packers

Can Jordan Love do it again?? In the second half of the season last year, he went crazy, propelling the Packers to a playoff spot and solidifying himself as the guy in Green Bay. He gets that chance again today, and it is against a Dolphins D that has been a bit leaky lately.

Yes, the Dolphins are only allowing 211.64 passing yards per game this season, 6th best in the NFL. But in recent weeks, that’s begun to shift. 3 of the last 5 quarterbacks to face Miami have thrown for 280 yards or more.

QB passing yards against the Dolphins

With Love’s home and away splits so drastic this year: He’s averaging 249.3 yards per game this season overall, just 235.3 yards per game on the road and a much better 260.6 yards per game at home. This Dolphins D has shown some holes, Love is better at home, can that second-half surge kickstart tonight?
