In The NBA: 12 Games & 7 Trends

A full slate in the NBA, and we dug into it!

In partnership with

Night Two in the NBA

The first night of the NBA season saw double overtime in the first game, and a 40 bomb from Luka Doncic in the second game. Tonight, with an 11-game slate, we’re going to get some similar fireworks. Below, you’ll find one thought for every NBA game on the schedule. Some of them we researched for this newsletter, and others were researched by our partners on X.

Check out the two YouTube links below, too. We’ve published detailed tutorials for the new update. The 4 tutorials so far focus on the NBA, the main dashboard, the NFL & the NHL.

Now, let’s get into it.

Brooklyn @ Charlotte: PicksxStevie

We kick things off with a play from one of our partners, PicksxStevie:

Miami @ Orlando: Paolo Banchero, 4.5 Assists

Banchero averaged 4.8 assists last season, and an even better 5.0 assists at home. He also averaged 9.6 potential assists at home last season, and at home, with at least 9 potential assists, Banchero averaged 5.4 assists with a 66% hit rate.

The Magic also added Desmond Bane, and having an elite shooting wing will make it more enticing, and hopefully easier, for Banchero to move the ball.

This play comes from our partner Jared Block at Trinity Analytics, who noticed a trend with KAT out last season for the Knicks:

We’ve posted new tutorials for the new app update, with the NBA player page tutorial dropping yesterday. Check it out below:

Toronto @ Atlanta: TrustTheData

An under in this economy?! That’s what TrustTheData and Steven Cheah are riding with tonight. Check it out below:

New Orleans @ Memphis: Jose Alvarado, P+A

Alvarado’s Points+Assists line is 10.5 tonight, and last season Alvardo averaged 15 points and assists per game.

Alvardo’s points and assists data last season

In two games against Memphis last season, he finished with 15 and 22 points and assists, respectively. Not suprising, considering the Grizzlies ranked 22nd in points and assists allowed to point guards.

The fear with Alvarado is minutes. He’s listed as the third point guard, but that’s behind defensively liability Jordan Poole, and rookie Jeremiah Fears. Early in the season, he has the chance to cut out a role with a Pelicans team with low expectations. Last season, when he played between 11 and 24 minutes, he averaged 11.3 points and assists.

LA Clippers @ Utah: KyleJustBets

One of the GOAT’s, KyleJustBets, cooked up this play for one of the newest Clippers, for night two of the NBA. Check it out:

Minnesota @ Portland: Jeremi Grant, 1.5 3PTM

Grant’s home and away splits were very, very drastic last season. On the road, he only averaged 1.9 made threes with a 55% hit rate. At home, it was a completely different story.

Grant’s 3PTM at home last season

At home, he averaged 2.6 made threes with a 76% hit rate. The extra positive is that there was a major differences in his average attempts. On the road he averaged 6.3 attetmps, and you guessed it - that number was the exact same at home.

Volume is the key, check out what we mean below:

  • When he had between 4 and 6 attempts, he averaged 1.5 makes with a 53% hit rate (17 games).

  • When he had between 6 and 8 attempts, he averaged 2.1 makes with a 76% hit rate (21 games).

  • When he had 9+ attempts, he averaged 4.9 makes with a 100% hit rate (8 games)
