MLB Rolls On, 16 Days Until The NFL

Baseball is deep into the dog days of August — the Milwaukee Brewers are the hottest team in the league, the Yankees may finally be finding their stride with three straight wins, and the countdown to October baseball is officially on.

But before the playoffs arrive, the NFL regular season kicks off in just 16 days. We can’t wait to show you everything we have planned for Props.Cash this football season 👀

As for tonight’s MLB slate, three pitchers jumped out with intriguing data and storylines we think are worth highlighting for our community. Use these as jumping-off points for your own research and betting angles.

On our radar tonight:

  • Bryce Miller, Seattle Mariners

  • Austin Gomber, Colorado Rockies

  • Eduardo Rodriguez, Arizona Diamondbacks

Let’s start with the first arm on that list — Bryce Miller.

Miller is set to be activated by the Mariners ahead of their game today, having not started since June 6th because of an elbow injury. In his last 4 starts before the injury, Miller gave up 5 hits in every start and has averaged 5.2 hits allowed across his 10 starts this season.

Miller also gave up 3 or more earned runs in his last 4 starts, and 4 or more in three of those. And unfortunately for him, he’s lined up to return against the Philadelphia Phillies, who have scored 23 runs in their last two games while hitting .393 as a team. Bryce Harper and Trea Turner have led the way.

Bryce Harper’s HRR, L5 Games

You can read more about them on the BvP sheet down below. It’s also worth noting that Kyle Schwarber has played a role, too, with 4 or more HRR in 3 of his last 4 games. And this is how lefties and righties split against Miller:

Austin Gomber

Gomber's hits allowed line is at an incredible 6.5 tonight against the Dodgers, and something tells us his home data played a role in the line finding its way there.

Austin Gombers hits allowed at home this season

So, which Dodger should you target against Gomber? His righty left splits are awful on both sides, with both handiness rocking an average north of .300 versus Gomber. But at home, it’s a bit of a different story. Lefties are only hitting .167 at home versus Gomber (.414 on the road), while righties are hitting .389 when Gomber is pitching at home.

How have the Dodgers fared against him in the past? Here’s a head-to-head matchup list, based on the projected 9 hitters in the Dodgers lineup today.

The Dodgers’ lineup versus Austin Gomber

Betts, a righty, has a great history versus Gomber and comes into this game hitting .300 over his last 10 games while averaging 2.8 HRR in that stretch.

In his 7 starts between July and August, Rodriguez has given up 6 or more hits every time, averaging 7.2 hits allowed in those starts.

Eduardo Rodriguez’s hits allowed, L10 Games

Righties are hitting .290 against Rodriguez, which is a problem, but lefties are the biggest issue. Across 94 plate appearances, lefties have collected a .364 average versus Rodriguez. The Guardians are projected to run switch hitters in 4 of their top 5 spots tonight, highlighted by Jose Ramirez, whom you can read more about in the BvP matchup sheet below.

The Guardians’ lineup versus Rodriguez

Angel Martizen, who is hitting one spot ahead of Ramirez, is the second-best hitter on the team against lefties, with a .300 average.
