Streaks in the NBA
Zion Williamson & Anthony Edwards have been playing incredible basketball lately, but ahead of tonight’s games, we’re fading one of the two young NBA stars and riding with the other.
Zion Williamson Under 24.5 Points
Zion Williamson is riding a hot streak; he’s gone over this line in four of his last five games but his field goal percentage in those five games is outrageous.
Can he keep it going tonight? He gets a mediocre matchup against the Brooklyn Nets. They’re a middle-of-the-pack team in points against and field goal percentage against, and on January 2nd he had a tough outing against them.
Although he’s been playing good ball lately, that shooting percentage isn’t sustainable. And combined with how he played against the Nets the last time out, we’re fading Williamson tonight.
Anthony Edwards Over 28.5 Points
This doesn’t have any effect on Anthony Edwards line tonight, but if you didn’t see him poster John Collins last night, check it out. Wild.
Now, like Zion, Edwards has been red hot lately. But we’re not fading Edwards here like we did Zion. He’s got a tough matchup against the Nuggets, but it’s a matchup that Edwards has risen to meet in the past.
Edwards numbers versus Western Conference teams against this 28.5 points line are really good without Karl-Anthony Towns in the lineup, having gone over this line in 5 of 6 games.
MLB is Back
Opening day is still technically nine days away, but the LA Dodgers and San Diego Padres kick off the Major League Baseball season in Seoul, South Korea early Wednesday morning. We’ve relaunched a bare-bones offering of our MLB platform, with the full launch coming next week, but we did tease some new features this morning:
More on those new features on Thursday. Now, ahead of the unofficial start to the baseball season, here are two trends for Wednesday morning’s international series:
Freddie Freeman Over 1.5 Total Bases
Freddie Freeman is Freddie freakin’ Freeman, man. It doesn’t matter who’s on the mound when Freeman is at the plate, but his numbers against Padres starter Yu Darvish are encouraging.
As are his numbers against right-handed pitchers.
Ha-Seong Kim Over 0.5 Total Bases
We’re basing this trend on the data and the narrative. Kim had at least one base in 75% of his games against the Dodgers last season, and any trend hitting at over a 70% clip is worth looking at.
But then there’s the narrative. Kim is playing 19 kilometers from his hometown, and you know he’ll want to show up on home soil.
Alex Nylander Has Arrived
It’s amazing what happens when you give young, talented players a chance. Since getting traded to and making his debut for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Alex Nylander has flourished. He’s been over his shot line in 8 of 12 games with the Blue Jackets.
And he has a point in 6 of his 12 games, with 11 points overall.
