The Hottest Hitters In Baseball
5 hitters elevating their game

Red Hot Hitters You Need To Know
Today’s newsletter is all about the bats that are heating up. We’re spotlighting five hitters who are making noise at the plate right now. Two are riding some of the best HRR streaks of the season. One’s in the middle of an 8-game hit streak. Another is launching home runs like it’s batting practice. And one could be on the verge of a breakout after shaking off a brief slump.
Josh Smith
Spencer Horwitz
Jake Magnum
Cal Raleigh
Shohei Ohtani
Josh Smith, you’re batting leadoff.
Josh Smith, HRR 10 in a Row
Smith’s HRR line is 1.5, a line he’s gone over 10 games in a row.

Smith’s HRR, L10 games
He’s averaged 3.3 HRR per game in that stretch, and after hitting .303 in March/April, Smith hit a measly .222 in May. Smith has flipped the script back in June and then some, hitting .348. He’s hitting .295 versus righties compared to .235 versus lefties, and faces righty Charlie Morton tonight.

Spencer Horwitz, HRR 10 in a Row
Horwitz's HRR line is 0.5, a line he has also gone over 10 games in a row. He also has 10 HRR in his last 2 games alone.

Horwitz’s HRR, L10 games
He also has much better data against righties than he does against lefties. Luckily, he faces a righty in Freddy Peralta tonight.

And after a slow May (he hit .216), Horwitz has been much better in June, hitting .288.

Jake Magnum, 10 Hits in a Row
Magnum has a hit in 10 straight games, 4 multi-hit games in that stretch, 15 hits in those 10 games, and 2+ HRR in 9 of the 10.

Magnum’s hits, L10 games
Switch hitters are hitting .323 versus Kris Bubic this season, and Magnum is hitting .286 versus lefties. He’s also hitting .306 in June.
Cal Raleigh, 4 in a Row with a HR
Cal Raleigh is in batting practice during games, or at least that's how it seems. Raleigh has a home run in 4 straight with 5 HR’s in that stretch, and a HR in 5 of his last 6 with six HR’s in that stretch.

Can he hit another tonight? In 6 PA’s versus Chris Paddock, he only has one hit, and yep, you guessed it, it was a HR. The weather at Target field won’t be overly in his favour with the wind blowing in, but when you’re this hot, anything is possible.

Shohei Ohtani, 10 HRR on Sunday
Ohtani is a bit different than everyone else on the list - he hasn’t been hot lately. Over a 5 game stretch from June 17th to 21st, Ohtani went 2 for 23, but on Sunday, he came alive. He hit a home run, added a triple, and finished the game with 10 HRR.

He has great history against the starting pitcher he’s facing tonight, too. For that, check out our MLB Batter vs Pitcher Matchup sheet below.
There’s one other thing about Ohtani that caught our mind: he’s put up big HRR numbers in bunches this season, with more streaky data than years past. Was the 10 HRR Sunday the start of a stretch with a lot of production after a slow week?

Ohtani’s HRR this season - his hit rate is low because his line is 3.5 HRR tonight
