Three Players, Three Props, 3PTM
If there were a ‘final 20 games of the season’ MVP award in the NBA, we think we know who would win it. From the start of the season to the end of February, Luka Doncic was really, really good. But since the calendar flipped to March, he’s found yet another level.
Category | Oct - Feb | March 1st - 19th | % Change |
|---|---|---|---|
Points Per Game | 32.6 | 34.9 | +7.05% |
Rebounds | 7.0 | 9.0 | +25.57% |
Assists | 8.6 | 7.9 | -8.14% |
Steals | 1.4 | 1.9 | +35.17% |
Blocks | 0.5 | 0.9 | +80.00% |
Field Goal Percentage | .471% | .490% | +4.03% |
3-Point Percentage | .358% | .394% | +10.05% |
See that last column? He has been on fire from behind the arc in March, and even more so in his last 5 games of March (of 10 total). And we’ll get into more detail on that shortly, but first, we kick things off with a breakdown of two other players for tonight’s NBA slate.
NBA 3PTM Trends
Duncan Robinson, 2.5 3PTM
If you haven’t heard the news, the Detroit Pistons will be without Cade Cunningham for the foreseeable future.
So naturally, we need to look at Pistons players this season without Cade in the lineup. And Duncan Robinson is our guy.

Robinson without Cade Cunningham this season
As you can see, Robinson is averaging 4.1 made threes with a 100% hit rate across 7 games without Cade this season. This season, across all games, Robinson is averaging 7 attempts from three per game. But in those games without Cade, he averaged 7.9 attempts from three, and only had 1 game with 5 or fewer attempts from three.
This season, without any filters or parameters, Robinson has averaged 3.3 made threes with a 77% hit rate when attempting 6 or more threes.

AJ Green, 2.5 3PTM
We’re riding with the play-type narrative here. Here’s a step-by-step process of the data that made us put this trend in the newsletter:
Green scores an incredible 50% of his points from Spot-Up shooting.
The Utah Jazz rank 30th, dead last, in defending Spot-Up shooting.
Green has 5 games this season against teams that rank in the bottom 5 of Spot-Up shooting. In those 5 games, he’s averaging 4.0 made threes with an 80% hit rate.

In those 5 games, Green has 7 or more attempts from three each time. And in all situations this season, when Green has 7 or more attempts from three, he’s averaging 3.9 made threes with an 81% hit rate against this line, and an even better 85% hit rate on the road with an average of 4.3 made threes.
Luka Doncic, 3.5 3PTM
Before we get into the data, we have to point out that he has found his way onto the injury list tonight in a back-to-back.
But if he plays, he’ll face the 28th-ranked 3-point defense against opposing point guards in the Miami Heat. 54% of opposing point guards have cleared their 3PTM line against Miami in their last 10 games. And when Luka plays bottom 5-ranked 3-point defenses, he’s averaged 3.6 made threes with a 64% hit rate against this line. On the road, that’s even better at a 4.6 made threes average with an 80% hit rate.

And then there’s his play recently - over his last 10 games, he’s averaging 5.0 made threes with an 80% hit rate, and over his last 5 games, he’s averaging 5.6 made threes with a 100% hit rate.
And lastly, in his last 5 games, he has 12 or more 3-point attempts every time. And when attempting 12 or more threes this season, he’s averaging 5.3 made threes with an 86% hit rate across 22 games.
