Three of the Hottest Hitters in Baseball

Do some of the hottest hitters in baseball have good matchups today? + WNBA partner plays

In partnership with

Story, Rocchio, and Freeman 🔥

There are plenty of players in baseball who are hot right now, and we could’ve featured them in today’s newsletter:

  • Bo Bichette (.367 average in his last 30 at-bats)

  • Ernie Clement (.429 average in his last 28 at-bats)

  • Joey Loperfido (.462 average in his last 26 at-bats)

And yes, we realize those were all Blue Jays. But they’re scorching hot right now throughout their lineup. Of course, there are non-Blue Jays that are hot right now, too:

  • Nick Gonzales (Pittsburgh, .423 average in his last 26 at-bats)

  • Shea Langeliers (ATH, .429 average in his previous 21 at-bats)

  • Alek Thomas (ARI, .500 average in his last 18 at-bats)

And that’s just 6 of the 20 to 25 players we could’ve featured today. Instead, through our research, we identified three players who are not only hot right now, but who have some other encouraging data worth pointing out in their matchups. One of those is also featured in our BvP Matchup Page, which you can also find below.

Story is on fire; he’s hitting .476 in his last 6 games, and that has translated to tangible results with Story registering 2 or more HRR in all 6 games, and averaging 4.33 HRR per game in those 6 games.

He hasn’t faced Royal starter Ryan Bergert before, who will make his first start as a Royal after being traded 5 days ago from San Diego to Kansas City, but the Bergert/Story matchup does have two pieces of data that play into Story’s favour:

  • Bergert has issues with control, walking 18 batters in 31.2 innings. Story is batting 4th with Duran, Bregman, and Abreu ahead of him, so Story could have some RBI opportunities.

  • Story has a better average vs lefties (.265) than he does righties (.253).

Brayan Rocchio

Rocchio’s HRR line is 0.5, and that’s a line he’s crossed in 9 straight games. Rocchio has 1 HRR in 3 of his last 9, 2 HRR in 2 of those games, and 3+ HRR in 4 of those games. He’s averaging 2.62 HRR per game in those 9 games, a big hump from his 1.4 HRR average per game this season.

Rocchio’s HRR in his last 10 games

He has 3 plate appearances versus Clay Holmes, and didn’t register a hit in any of the three plate appearances, but there’s some hope - Holmes has given up 5+ hits in 5 straight starts and 6+ hits in 4 of those starts.

Since the All-Star Break, Freeman is hitting .350. Before the break, he was hitting .297. A .053 average jump is pretty significant, and that’s seen an even bigger jump in his last 6 games. Since July 28th, Freeman is hitting .500, a .203 jump from his pre-All-Star game numbers, and that has translated to significant HRR results with 2 or more HRR in 7 straight games and 4 or more HRR in 4 of those games.
