Three Touchdown Facts in the NFL

You know the saying death, taxes, and ________? Here are three NFL touchdown facts to fill in that blank.

  • The Dallas Cowboys’ rush defense is blank, nonexistent, a myth, hypothetical—you get the point, it’s really bad.

  • The Las Vegas Raiders secondary is like Joel Embiid this season; they’re taking every game off. And Bo Nix is like DeAaron Fox, a baller.

  • And in the same way that the Cowboys can’t stop the run, the Ravens can’t stop the pass. Like, at all.

Run the Ball, Jayden!

Brian Robinson, Austin Ekeler, and Jayden Daniels combined for 25 rushing attempts last week. But this week, against a Cowboys defense that allows 2nd most rushing yards, the most rushing TDs, and averaged the third longest rush per game in the NFL, those three may combine for 30 to 35 carries on Sunday.

This is how often the Cowboys’ recent opponents - Houston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and San Francisco - ran the ball versus the Cowboys.

  • Week 11: Joe Mixon, CJ Stroud, Tank Dell, and Dameon Pierce combined for 25 rushing attempts, with Mixon scoring three rushing touchdowns.

  • Week 10: Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts, Will Shipley, Kenneth Gainwell, and Kenny Pickett combined for 38 rushing attempts, with Hurts scoring two rushing touchdowns.

  • Week 9: Bijan Robinson, Tyler Allgreier, Ray-Ray McCloud and Kirk Cousins combined for 30 rushing attempts. Allgeier rushed it in once.

  • Week 8: Issac Guerendo, Brock Purdy, Ricky Pearsall, Jordan Mason, Deebo Samuel, Patrick Taylor, and Kyle Juszczyk combined for 36 rushing attempts and two touchdowns.

If Washington doesn’t score a rushing touchdown Sunday, it would be an all-time shocker. When healthy, Brian Robinson is the clear number-one back and the touchdown favorite. His 7 rushing touchdowns lead the Commanders, followed by Daniels (4), Ekeler (4), and McNichols (4).

Bo Nix, Man!

Over his last 4 games, Bo Nix is cookin’

Bo Nix’s passing touchdowns in his last 5 games

He’s thrown 9 passing touchdowns in his last 4 games, and the Raiders give out passing touchdowns for free.

Recent quarterbacks to face the Raiders

The Raiders have allowed a whopping 10 passing touchdowns in their last 10 games.

Now that we’ve laid that out, this is where things get difficult. The Broncos don’t have a clear number-one receiver in the end zone. Although Courtland Sutton is the clear number one as they move down the field (he has 22 more receptions than the next closest wide receiver), he only has 3 receiving touchdowns. 9 other players have caught touchdowns for the Broncos this season.

The one wide receiver trend we noticed for Denver was that Devaughn Vele has seen a big spike in snap percentage over his last two games.

Vele’s snap % this season

Denver is trusting him more, and Vele is paying them back with 8 receptions on 9 targets for 105 yards and a touchdown in his last two games.

Which Charger Will Charge Their Way Into the Endzone?

Ladd McConkey? Quentin Johnson? Will Dissly? The Chargers have a similar issue as the Broncos, but with the Chargers it’s a bit easier. Instead of picking between 4 or 5 touchdown candidates, they really only have two (sorry, Will Dissly fantasy owners!).

Ladd McConkey is the clear number-one option as they move down the field.

  • McConkey has 43 receptions, and 4 receiving touchdowns.

  • Will Dissly has 37 receptions, but just 1 receiving touchdown.

  • Quentin Johnson has just 22 receptions, but 6 of them are for touchdowns.

If you’re looking at reception volume, it’s McConkey. But if you’re looking at the reception-to-touchdown ratio, Johnson is the clear number-one choice.

And like we said, the Ravens are just awful defending the pass. They rank last in passing yards allowed, last in passing attempts allowed, 5th in passing touchdowns allowed, and 23rd in average long passing touchdown. 5 of the last 7 QBs to play Baltimore have had multi-touchdown passing games.
