Week 2: 15 Games, 15 Thoughts

Boy, week one was fun - capped off by two absolute thrillers between the Bills and Ravens, and an incredible comeback on Monday Night Football by the (second-year) rookie JJ McCarthy. Week 2 is already rolling, and yes, it's early, but the Packers’ first two games, including a win on TNF, have their fanbase and the NFL community buzzing - they look legit.

This week’s newsletter is packed with value: we’ve got a player prop trend for all 15 NFL games, hopefully giving you a clear edge heading into today and Monday. Plus, we highlighted 3 of our favorite matchups in more detail over on our YouTube channel — make sure to check those out if you want the deeper dive.

SEA vs PIT: Aaron Rodgers, 1.5 Passing Touchdowns

Last week, Seattle gave up over 270 yards and 2 passing touchdowns to Brock Purdy and the 49ers, and if Aaron Rodgers’ week 1 is any indication of what we can expect from the Vet, there’s no reason Rodgers shouldn’t be able to follow Purdy’s roadmap in week 2.

Rodgers’ Passing Touchdowns in Week 1

Rodgers put up 4 passing touchdowns and 244 yards, even though he attempted just 30 passes. The accuracy was prevalent, completing 22. Tomlin and Rodgers are on the same page, and get a good matchup to prove it once again.

BUF vs NYJ: Breece Hall, 14.5 Longest Rush

CHI vs DET: Jared Goff, Under 249.5 Passing Yards

I think eventually they’ll figure it out, but Jared Goff and the new offensive coordinator for the Lions, John Morton, are not on the same page. The Lions’ offense didn’t look anything like last year, and now the engine that made it move last year, Ben Johnson, is on the other sideline.

Jared Goff’s Passing Yards in Week 1

Goff had 225 yards last week, and the Bears held (second-year) rookie JJ McCarthy to under 150 yards in week one. Combine Johnson’s knowledge of Goff with how the Bears’ defense played last week, and Goff’s rusty play with his new o-coordinator, and it feels like a spot to fade Goff once again.

NYG vs DAL: Dak Prescott, Passing Yards

Here are a couple of facts:

  • Prescott owns the Giants at home, averaging 322.3 yards per game in his last 3 games against the Giants in Dallas. Yes, some of that data dates back to 2021, but there are other reasons to like this.

  • Prescott only managed 188 yards last week against Philly, but the two defenses are vastly different.

  • The Giants’ D allowed Jayden Daniels to throw for 233 yards, and this is a Jayden Daniels that is off to a slower start in his second year, with the Commanders’ offense struggling a bit in week 2.

  • In week one, the Cowboys showed they were going to lean on the passing attack once again, with Prescott attempting 34 passes.

Precott’s Passing Yards, his L10 games with 34 or more passing attempts

In his last 10 starts with 34 or more pass attempts, Prescott is averaging 288.7 yards per game, clearing this line 7 times. He loves playing the Giants, and if we see pass attempt numbers like that, Dak has a good spot today.

CLE vs BAL: Lamar Jackson, 46.5 Rushing Yards

Lamar’s rushing number seems…low? Anything can happen, but he had 70 yards in week one on 6 attempts, averaging a whopping 11.6 yards per carry. There are two other data sets to note: in his last games with 6 or more attempts, he’s averaging 55.6 yards per game.

The other data set worth noting: he’s been over this number in 3 of his last 4 home games against Cleveland.

SF vs NO: Christian McCaffrey, 18.5 Rush Attempts

Unless he gets injured, it’s hard to picture McCaffrey not rushing at least 19 times. He had 22 in week one, and Mac Jones is expected to start over the injured Brock Purdy.

Shanahan is sure to try to make things as easy as possible for his backup QB, and he can look at the Saints game last week for inspiration: Cardinals running backs combined for 108 yards and 1 touchdown on just 20 carries (5.4 yards per carry).

NE vs MIA: Drake Maye, 22.5 Pass Completions

Only the Miami Dolphins could make Daniel Jones look that good last week. He had 272 yards on just 22 completions (29 attempts). If Drake Maye’s week one is a sign of things to come, Mike Vrabel is going to let him sling it in year 2. He attempted a whopping 46 passes in week one, completing 22.

Maye’s week one, combined with the Dolphins’ week one, is encouraging enough for us. Want more data to make this feel good? 7 of the last 10 QBs to face Miami have gone over this number.

JAC vs CIN: Brenton Strange, 35.5 Receiving Yards

Take. Tight. Ends. Against. Cincinnati!!!

Tight Ends last week against Cleveland

Last week, the two Cleveland tight ends racked up 100 yards on 10 catches, with Harold Fannin leading the way. And Strange started his year off hot: 59 yards, 4 receptions on 4 targets with a 79% snap rate, third highest in his career.

4 PM Games

CAR vs ARI: Bryce Young, 16.5 Rushing Yards

Young only managed 154 yards through the air in week one, but he eclipsed this rushing line easily, racking up 40 yards on just 5 attempts. And that’s what this will come down to - last season, he averaged 3.1 rushing attempts, but in his last 5 games with at least 4 rushing attempts, he’s averaged 34 yards per game.

Young with 4 or more rushing attempts, L5 games

And just last week, the Cardinals gave up 26 yards to Spencer Rattler.

Harvey had a pretty good NFL debut last week, racking up 70 yards on just 6 carries, for an incredible 11.6 yards per carry. Even with a blowout win last week, which saw Indianapolis’s opponent, Miami, throwing the ball a lot, the Colts still gave up 55 yards to De’Von Acahne on just 7 carries.

PHI vs KC: Jalen Hurts, Under 26.5 Passing Attempts

Super Bowl rematch! Hurts attempted just 22 passes in the Super Bowl and opened the 2025 season in the same manner, attempting just 23. This one isn’t even about the matchup; it’s just an average game:

Hurts L10 Games Overall

In his last 10 games, he’s only averaging 21.2 passing attempts per game, and until the Eagles have a major strategy change, fading a number this high for Hurts is just good sense.

Sunday Night Football

ATL vs MIN: J.J. McCarthy, 1.5 Passing Touchdowns

McCarthy had 2 passing touchdowns in his NFL debut, a good start for this trend. What’s even better is that the Atlanta Falcons gave up 3 passing touchdowns to Baker Mayfield and the Bucs in week one, marking the third game in a row (dating back to last season) where they’ve given up at least 3 passing touchdowns.

Will we get the first half J.J. or the second half J.J. this week? Time will tell.
